Water-soluble nonwoven fabric

Cold water melted cotton

Product Introduction

PVA three-dimensional water-soluble cotton is the first domestic model that has invested heavily in introducing high-end equipment and professional and technical talents in China. It has successfully developed the first domestic model: three-dimensional embroidery (cold water-soluble cotton), breaking the high-price situation of foreign monopoly, and truly bringing environmentally friendly and affordable new materials to domestic customers. It has been used for: three-dimensional embroidery, hollow embroidery for 13 years, water-soluble cotton, low temperature, fast dissolution, colorless after dissolution, etc. Water-soluble cotton is developed for three-dimensional embroidery: the thickness reaches 3mm, and the weight is 300g/㎡m³. The conventional gram weights are 200 grams, 300 grams, and 400 grams, and the thickness of 200 grams is equivalent to 2mm, and so on; other gram weights can also be customized. It has an ideal low water-soluble temperature; good acid and alkali resistance, and it is odorless and colorless after being dissolved in water. The aqueous solution is colorless and transparent, and can naturally biodegrade in a short time. It can reduce the risk of color sample variation, low-temperature water-soluble fabrics are not easy to burn, and there is no residue on the embroidery; it is environmentally friendly and easy to soluble, and is an excellent three-dimensional embroidery water-soluble lining material. Can be customized for special specifications and wide widths.

Low temperature printing non-woven fabric Industry knowledge

How to optimize the water absorption and air permeability of cold water molten cotton?

As an environmentally friendly functional material, cold water melted cotton (such as PVA three-dimensional water-soluble cotton) is widely used in three-dimensional embroidery, hollow embroidery and other fields. Its core performance - water absorption and air permeability, directly affects the use effect and user experience of the product. Optimizing these two properties requires starting from multiple dimensions such as material formula, production process, and post-processing technology, while combining targeted improvements with industry needs.

Water absorption optimization strategy

1. Adjustment of material formula
The main raw material of cold water melted cotton is polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and the hydroxyl groups in its molecular chain give the material hydrophilicity. The water absorption can be further improved by the following methods:

  • Introduction of hydrophilic modifiers: Adding water-absorbing resins such as carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) or sodium polyacrylate during the synthesis of PVA to increase the water-absorbing group density of the material through chemical cross-linking. For example, the research and development team of Anhui Haita New Material Technology Co., Ltd. increased the water absorption rate of the material by more than 20% by adjusting the ratio of PVA to modifiers.
  • Regulating the degree of polymerization and alcoholysis: The lower the degree of polymerization of PVA, the stronger the molecular chain mobility and the faster the water absorption speed; and partially alcoholyzed PVA (such as alcoholysis degree 88%) is more hydrophilic than the completely alcoholyzed product (99%), because it retains some acetyl groups and enhances the water molecule penetration ability.

2. Physical structure design

  • Porous structure construction: Through the foaming process or adding pore-forming agents (such as sodium bicarbonate), microporous channels are formed inside the material to increase the specific surface area. For example, Anhui Haita New Material Technology Co., Ltd.'s three-dimensional water-soluble cotton uses high-pressure gas foaming technology, so that products with a thickness of 3mm can still absorb water quickly.
  • Surface roughening treatment: Plasma treatment or chemical etching is performed on the surface of the film to form a nano-scale concave-convex structure to enhance the capillary effect.

3. Process parameter optimization

  • Film forming temperature and speed control: In the film blowing production line, lowering the temperature of the cooling roller can slow down the crystallization rate and make the PVA molecules more loosely arranged, thereby improving the water absorption efficiency.
  • Post-treatment process: Through water bath annealing or wet heat treatment, internal stress is eliminated and the swelling performance of the material is stabilized.

Breathability optimization strategy

Breathability is the key to avoid stuffiness and maintain comfort in cold water melted cotton in applications such as embroidery. It is necessary to balance the dissolution rate and air permeability.

1. Material compounding and lamination technology

  • Microporous membrane compounding: PVA film and polylactic acid (PLA) non-woven fabric are compounded through a hot melt film coating production line, and the natural breathability of PLA is used to form a two-component structure. The research and development team of Anhui Haita New Material Technology Co., Ltd. has developed a composite lining with high breathability and low-temperature water solubility through this technology.
  • Gradient structure design: Multi-layer co-extrusion film blowing process is used to make the surface of the material dense (to ensure strength) and the inner layer porous (to improve air permeability).

2. Process innovation

  • Stretching pore forming technology: The film is biaxially stretched during the film blowing or casting process to form penetrating micropores. For example, adjusting the tension parameters of the slitting machine can control the pore size distribution to avoid excessive pore size affecting the solubility performance.
  • Additive assistance: Add degradable particles such as silica or starch, and dissolve the particles by washing after the material is formed, leaving a breathable channel.

3. Improved environmental adaptability

  • Temperature and humidity response design: By grafting thermosensitive polymers (such as poly N-isopropylacrylamide), the material can maintain air permeability in a low humidity environment and accelerate dissolution in high humidity. This type of product is particularly suitable for embroidery needs in the humid climate of the south.

Practical applications and industry cases

In the field of three-dimensional embroidery, cold water melted cotton needs to meet the requirements of rapid dissolution at low temperature (usually below 60°C) without leaving residue. Anhui Haita New Material Technology Co., Ltd.'s PVA three-dimensional water-soluble cotton achieves performance balance in the following ways:

  • Customized weight and thickness: According to different embroidery base fabric requirements, gradient products from 200g/m² (2mm) to 400g/m² (4mm) are provided, of which the 300g/m² version optimizes porosity and achieves an air permeability of 1500g/m²/24h (JIS L1099 standard), while maintaining complete dissolution within 30 seconds.
  • Environmental compatibility: The colorless and odorless characteristics of the material after dissolution are due to the strict control of the catalyst residue in the reactor by the central material control system to ensure compliance with the ISO9001 quality system requirements.

Future development direction

  1. Intelligent production: Use the ERP management system to monitor the raw material ratio and process parameters in real time, and dynamically adjust the water absorption/air permeability indicators.
  2. Bio-based modification: Explore the blending of natural polymers such as chitosan or sodium alginate with PVA to further improve degradation speed and comfort.
